Sometimes, we all need to indulge in a little taste of luxury. A sumptuous, freshly prepared breakfast is the perfect recipe to chase away the winter blues.

But, for the best experience, there’s a bit more to it than throwing some of your favourite cereal in a bowl. Treat yourself to something more!

In our experience, the best breakfasts are always those planned a little ahead of time.

 

The Shopping List

Nobody wants to discover an empty fridge they day they decide to treat themselves.

So, set aside a morning and dedicate it to having breakfast in bed. This could be an indulgence for you alone, or perhaps you’re making a loved one feel special.

Stock the fridge with all your favourite breakfast items! Put some products in your basket that you don’t have very often, to set this apart from your usual morning meals. One tip - going organic makes everything taste a little better.

You’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to organic shops, so get browsing!

This should be a blissful experience, so choose items that are easy to cook with but decadent to eat!

Stacked Waffles

Waffles are one of the most popular breakfast menu items around - and for good reason!

Here, you can let your imagination go wild. From maple syrup to bacon, there are a variety of options you can put on top of your waffle stack. For us, organic fruit is always the tastiest choice!

The only ingredients you need are:

  • 4 large organic eggs
  • 1 tbsp 100% pure maple syrup
  • 1/4 tsp unrefined sea salt
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp melted grass fed butter
  • 2 tbsp organic milk, coconut milk, or raw milk
  • 2-4 tbsp water
  • 1 tsp gluten free organic vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup organic coconut flour
  • 1/4 tsp homemade baking powder


Another bonus - this recipe is also gluten free!

Guacamole Toast

We’ve all heard of avocado toast, which is a well-loved recipe that has risen to fame in recent years. For this reason, some of us aren’t inspired by this meal idea any longer.

So, why not mix things up a bit?

One of the exciting things about ‘guacamole’ toast is there are no rules. Fancy throwing on tomato? Red onion? Lemon juice? Paprika? All of the above? The choice is all yours!

Tofu Scramble Wrap

Fancy something hearty for breakfast? It is the most important meal of the day, after all!

Down to Earth have the perfect organic recipe to tickle your tastebuds. All you need is:

  • 1-2 teaspoons canola oil
  • ½ cup minced onion
  • ½ cup minced carrot
  • 1-2 cloves fresh garlic, minced or crushed
  • ½ teaspoon curry powder
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
  • ¼ teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 (10-ounce) package firm or extra firm organic tofu, drained and crumbled
  • ¾ teaspoon soy sauce
  • Fresh cracked pepper
  • 1 cup fresh spinach
  • ¼ cup finely chopped scallions


Simply throw all these ingredients in a pan and roll up into a wrap when finished! All these tasty spices and extras bring the tofu to life, creating a tasty vegan alternative to the traditional scrambled eggs.

Just try not to finish it before heading back to bed!

 

Super Smoothie

Love getting your 5-a-day? Why not give your body that boost of vitamin C it’s craving?

This one needs no recipe. Throw any fruit you fancy into a blender, with some juice or almond milk, and enjoy. Bananas, berries, grapes - anything is welcome. Many people add spinach if they’re on a health kick.

No mess, no fuss - it’s a no-brainer.

Like the sound of a vegetarian alternative to your traditional greasy fry up? BBC Good Food have the recipe you’re looking for...

All you need is:

  • 4 large field mushrooms
  • 8 tomatoes, halved
  • 1 garlic clove, thinly sliced
  • 2 tsp olive oil
  • 200g bag spinach
  • 4 eggs


Packed with vegetables, you can’t ask for a better start to the day. There are no rules on how to serve this one - it’s for you to have fun with!

 

Get Plated

Whatever you choose to have for breakfast, think about things logistically.

Don’t get your freshly washed sheets dirty! If your meal seems particularly messy, why not use a tray? These can also help you present your breakfast more appealingly.

For many of us, a proper breakfast in bed is a one-off treat. So, don’t be afraid to add any luxurious elements that take your fancy.
